Boston Lumineers

Many people have heard of Lumineers because of their marketing campaign. As a result, there are some misconceptions about them. Lumineers are nothing more or less than a particular brand of porcelain veneers.

Some Misconceptions About Lumineers

A veneer about to be placed.

Lumineers are considered an ultra-thin veneer. They are about .2mm thinner than older, traditional veneers.  While it is possible to place Lumineers without tooth preparation, you’ll need to be aware that this may make your teeth look a little bulky and slightly longer than normal.  However, When your teeth are prepared for traditional porcelain veneers, there is really a very minimal amount of shaving done, so it would be wise not to put too much importance on this issue. As you can see from the picture on the left you cannot tell the difference between the shaved and unshaved teeth.

The biggest misconception is that they are the only ultra-thin brand available. That is simply not the case. There are several brands of ultra-thin porcelain veneers on the market. The main difference between this brand and other ultra-thin veneers are the trademark restrictions. The Lumineers manufacturer requires that the veneers be fabricated exclusively by the Den Mat lab.  Some dentists are not thrilled with the artistry of the veneers from that lab. They tend to be bulky and monochromatic. With other brands, Dr. Burba can use his own master ceramist who produces beautiful results.

No matter what type of porcelain veneers you choose, at Burba Dental you will not have to worry about the results. We have a beautiful smile guarantee. You’ll get to “test drive” a set of temporary veneers to see if you like them. You can also get the opinion of your family and friends. If you’re anything but thrilled with the results, they go right back to the lab. Below is just one example of the kind of results you can get with Lumineers by Dr. Burba. Of course it is important you pick the right dentist to place your porcelain veneers. Although the Lumineers company has a certification course, they only teach how to place veneers. There are no required courses on designing a smile, or the artistry required for creating beautiful, natural looking veneers. Dr. Burba is one of a handful of dentists in the entire New England area who is an accredited cosmetic dentist.  He can give you a beautiful smile.
