A bridge is a type of restoration that replaces missing teeth by using the teeth on either side of the space for support. When there are teeth on either side of the space they are prepared for crowns. A replacement tooth (called a pontic) replaces the missing tooth. The pontic is attached to crowns that cover the natural teeth and provide support for the bridge. The bridge is permanently cemented onto the teeth.

Why do I need a bridge?

Missing teeth can cause the remaining teeth to drift into the space. This drifting can cause the mouth to sag and the face to look older. Your bite will also change and this can cause damage to the remaining teeth and gums. The bridge spans the space where one or more teeth are missing, and helps maintain the natural shape of your face by providing support for your lips and cheeks. By restoring your bite, the bridge also allows you to properly chew your food , and protects the adjacent teeth from damage.
