What are they?

Until recently, if you were missing teeth the only options were bridges or partial dentures to replace them.  Now, thanks to new advances in technology, another option exists that can restore the missing spaces without using the teeth on either side of the space.

A dental implant is a small titanium screw that is placed into the bone.  This screw replaces the root of a tooth, and allows a crown, or bridge to be placed on top of it to replace the missing tooth or teeth.

Why should I chose an implant?

When there is a missing tooth or teeth, and the teeth all around the spaces are perfectly healthy; an implant can be a great choice.  The implant is placed into the bone where the missing teeth used to be and then a crown or bridge is placed on top.  The teeth next to the implants are never touched and remain intact and healthy.

A few dental implants can also be used to make a special kind of denture that is held in place using the implants for support.  This option is great for those dentures that don’t want to stay in place.

Ask Dr. Burba if implants are right for you!
