Imagine if there were only one dentist available for every 100,000 people.
For those of us living in the U.S., this is hard to fathom. Salem alone is home to more than 60 dental practices. Of course, there’s only one with the doctors Burba.
Let your mind slowly drift to Jamaica…
Picture it. The tropical paradise filled with sun-baked tourists strolling perfect, white-sand beaches. Living it up at luxurious tropical resorts.
Away from the luxury resorts and stunning beaches, thousands of Jamaicans face a very real public health threat due to unsafe oral hygiene.
Dental hygiene helps to prevent disease and illness in a place where healthcare is uncommon.
More than the misery of tooth pain, or the social anxiety caused by missing or discolored teeth, poor oral hygiene and gum disease increases the risk of heart disease, dementia, respiratory infections and diabetic complications. And, this list of health risks grows longer every day.
To aid the people of Jamaica in overcoming the oral and general health risks due to the lack of trained dental professionals on the island, Dr. Randy and Burba Dental Partners are once again partnering with the Great Shape! Inc. 1000 Smiles Program—the world’s largest international humanitarian dental project.
Thanks to the generosity of more than 350 volunteers from across the globe, each year the 1000 Smiles project serves more than 15,000 Jamaicans. Volunteer dentists and hygienists provide fillings, cleanings, extractions, sealants, dentures and oral health education in temporary dental clinics and schools.
To fulfill its goodwill mission, Great Shape requires more than 10,000 pounds of supplies and equipment from the U.S., as well as volunteers to perform dental work.
And, that’s where we can use your help.
We’re encouraging all of our patients, friends, and family to contribute to this great cause. You can do so by dropping a donation at our office.
Each donation sponsors dental services for five Jamaicans, including:
- • Dental care, products, and equipment
- • Teeth cleanings
- • Extractions
- • Sealants
- • Toothbrushes
Your generosity won’t go unnoticed. Patients who donate $100 or more receive custom whitening trays and solution for at home whitening.
Please consider dropping a gift by the office today.
